P2P Recruits

Gordon Elliott topped the majority of sales last term, continuing to invest heavily in the Irish point to point scene. One of the standout buys was JERSEY DES BROSSES, a £370,000 purchase in March. He was second to JINGKO BLUE, now with Nicky Henderson, in his sole point but the general consensus is that Jersey des Brosses is the better prospect.

In terms of price, QUALIMITA cost a hefty €500,000 at the Punchestown Festival Sale but she has bags of potential. She won her point to point by 30 lengths without breaking a sweat and Mags O’Toole pipped Henry de Bromhead to sign the docket with the winning bid. She will don the Robcour silks but connections have hinted at a soft approach with her.

It was fantastic to see Fergal O’Brien get OAK GROVE at Aintree in April and he will run in the Chris Giles colours this season. Still only a four year old, he will presumably stay in bumpers this year and here’s to hoping that we could see him competing in one of the nice races in the spring.

JERIKO DU REPONET heads to Seven Barrows with a massive reputation and Nicky Henderson suggested that he will go novice hurdling in the autumn. Another to run in the JP McManus colours, Jeriko Du Reponet produced a scintillating performance at Kirkistown and he is one to keep a very close eye on.

A few others to note: SPRINGT DE LA MARE (Gavin Cromwell), BELLAS BRIDGE (Jamie Snowden), CAPTAIN BELLAMY (Paul Nicholls) and WORLDWIDE FURY (David Pipe) should be in trackers.
